About Us

David was born in Wills Point, Texas to Joe and Nellie Lyons as the second child of three sons.  His mother resides in a residential care home in Garland.  His father passed away in 1995.

Honors Graduate from Willis Point H.S.; BBA in Marketing from Texas A&M University – Commerce.   

Hobbies include reading current events and being a sports enthusiast, especially of local Dallas professional teams.

Ethelene was born Ethelene Dixon in Terrell, Texas. She grew up as the fifth of 12 siblings in Wills Point to Raymond and Pauline Dixon. Her mother still resides in Wills Point and her father passed away in 1990. Graduate of Wills Point H.S. and Draugon’s Business School of Dallas.

She loves flower gardening and is passionate about maintaining an active prayer life.

MARRIED:  December 21, 1973 in Edgewood, Texas

David and Ethelene moved to Garland in 1976.  They have lived in Sachse since 2009.  They raised four children to adulthood with the blessings of the Lord.  Their younger son, Nathan, passed away in 2007. They now are also blessed with 9 wonderful grandchildren who call them “Papa and Gigi”, 2 sons-in-law: Tony Mayor and Larry Williamson, and a daughter-in-law, Monica Vasquez Lyons. They joined The Mount April 1978.  David has been an ordained Deacon at The Mount since 1981.  David has taught Sunday school in the Adult Department since 1983, with a hiatus of about two years.  He is a certified teacher with the Evangelical Teachers Association.  He is also an active participant in the Men’s ministry, serves on the Mt Hebron Academy Board, and leads a Shepherd Ministry Group. Serves as secretary of the church’s governing Joint Board.  He has facilitated small group bible studies for men and co-ed groups. Other past service to The Mount include membership committee chairperson, Deacon Chairman, Trustee chairman, finance committee, vacation bible school, lifestyle stewardship campaign, men’s choir, and various ad-hoc committees.   

Ethelene has lead and served in both the mission ministry and the prayer ministry at The Mount.  She has completed eight years of study with the Bible Study Fellowship International.  She is an active participant in the Deaconess ministry, Women’s ministry, and co-leads a Shepherd Ministry Group with her husband.   

Professionally, David is a Senior Lease Analyst with Denbury Resources Inc. in Plano.  He has been a lease analyst in the oil and gas industry for over 33 years. He is a member of the National Association of Lease and Title Analysts and member of its local DFW chapter.  He has been active in the community through the years through teaching business basics in Middle schools for Junior Achievement, coaching sports teams in SG Little League and the YMCA, being a parent leader in The Boy Scouts.  He served stints as an active volunteer in Neighborhood Crime Watch, GISD Campus Improvement, the Salvation Army, American Heart Fund and GISD Multi-Ethnic Committee.  He is a charter member of the Garland NAACP.

Professionally, Ethelene has spent most of her time as a homemaker; mentor to her children, and as a school and neighborhood volunteer.  She was a committed preschool teacher to two year olds at the Mt Hebron Christian Academy from 1996 to 2004.  Prior to that, she served as a part-time preschool teacher at FBC- Garland and FUMC –Garland Mother’s Day Out ministries.  Ethelene is best known as a prayer warrior and encourager to those who know her.  She is highly respected as a witness for Christ in her family, church and community.  

Interesting tidbit:  David and Ethelene are childhood sweethearts, having met in the first grade and had their first date in the eighth grade on a hayride.   He found his puppy love, first love and true love all in the same lovely lady!
